Why cannot we get along with everyone?

Our level of tolerance towards loved ones and strangers varies all through our life since childhood days. I am not sure if you have noticed this. We always wanted to be so nice to strangers and take our loved ones for granted most of the time.

When strangers upset us, we may be annoyed for a while but we just ignore and keep going on. Same applies at the workplace. But when same experience happens with our loved ones, we take it very serious and keep thinking of this occasionally.

Is this because we are very closely associated with our loved ones all the time and expect more from them? Or, are we trying to impose our expectation and qualities on our loved ones and try to experience the same from them all the time? Is this possible?

Everyone is different and people do different things to their level of understanding of what is right or wrong. Why cannot we just get along with everyone all the time? I know it is very hard as I always experience this sense of animosity when my friends and family upset me occasionally. After a while, I try to understand my experience and get along with them. Tricky bit would be not even getting upset in the first instance when someone upsets us.
In other words, one should be emotionally strong enough so that no one can upset them.
